    wind data

Thanks for your answers, once again. You really are a great help! I cannot attend a course thou, because I need to finish my project really soon. But I think I got the most important information now. I think globalmapper just applies different roughness length values for the different land uses in dependency of the season and it is kind of work intensive to do weighted averages with 50+ calculations. But I'll address this problem in the near future!

    wind data

Well I was planing to use the Weibull-parameters as an indicator for the wind speed distribution, or is there a better way to do this? I guess I have to manually write them down then. I got some more questions though, I hope it's ok if I use this thread! I was wondering if the 'gwc' is just transfered (aka it is the same for measurement site and investigation site) and only the local effects at the investigation site take effect on it? If so, do I need a map, which contains both sites or would it be enough to have a map for each site with blank space between them? I am asking because my map got over 1,000,000 lines already (compare http://www.wasp.dk/Support/FAQ/DigitalMaps.aspx), it is still working thou! This might change if I add 2m contour lines near the sites and also add roughness data. Also the progressing in the map editor is really time intensive this way. Also I am not quite sure, if I need to do a dRIX analysis myself or is it implemented into WAsP already? Also I am going to use the global mapper feature of creating roughness areas, but they offer them for winter and summer seperatly. Which one should I use or can I combine them? (I guess this one is more a question for the global mapper forum though, but maybe someone here knows this issue)
  3. To be honest: I don't understand the Weibull function completly yet. But as far as I understand, the fitting is performed using the wind speed bin. So a lower first bin than my calm threshold would lead to an erroneous Weibull-function. Is this correct so far? So I would, as you are also suggesting, widen my first bin. But should I put the upper limit to the treshold, to ensure that it won't get to big, or should I put it on 2m, so after that bin the other bins would be the same as in other simulations (for cross-analysis). The third option would be to use the same lower bin for every owc I want to cross-analyse. That would be much more work though, because I would need to examine so much data before processing it. Which one would you suggest and why? Of course these low speeds wouldn't have an impact on AEP but a wrong Weibull-distribution would.
  4. First of all: sorry I wasn't answering for such a long time, and second of all thanks for your detailed answers! I found some literature regarding the averaging intervall and its influences on the Weibull-Parameters and I might perform a pre-study myself to resolve this problem. My real concern right now is the calm threshold: If I understand WACA and Weibull correctly a threshold above 1.0 would have an influence on the Weibull-Parameters and also the following simulation (or does it take the calm threshold into account while calculating the weibull-parameters?). Is there a way to avoid this problem? Is it f.e. possible to combine the 1m/s and the 2m/s classes and which influences would this have? Thanks in advance for every input you can give me!

    wind data

Dear WAsP Team and dear WAsP-Users, I am planning on writing my Bachelor thesis on a project with WAsP and I want to evaluate the wind potential analysis. I am searching for Winddata to validate my simulating results. Do you know, if possible, free wind data? I found some myself but it would be great to have some more, especially from higher hub heights. Also I was wondering why my WAsP output wouldn't give me the Weibull-Parameters for the 'all sector'? It is only presented in the diagramm, but I can't automatically export them. Is this intended and is there a way to fix this? Thanks for your help!
  6. I am writing my Bachelor-Thesis on a project with WAsP and I am kind of new to the software but really like to work accurately. I got a ton of questions and hope it is okay if I ain't to shy to ask them. I would really appreciate some advice from experienced users. Right now its concerning wind data and the climate analyst. 1. Does the averaging interval of wind speeds/directions have an impact on the produced observed wind climate? I guess so, because it is requested. To put it differently: I want to simulate a wind climate and compare it with measured data from the same time periods to test the accuracy of predictions. Can I do this as simple as that with different averaging intervals and also in general? 2. I guess a few missing data won't hurt with this intention and I plan to exclude bigger data gaps respectively from simulation and comparison data. But I also got different time steps. I guess thats no problem? 3. I got data from ncdc which sometimes doesn't include direction values but an indicator for 'variable wind directions'? How does the climate analyst cope with that. Excluding these data don't seem like an solution, because it occurs especially in calm conditions. 4. Also the minimum wind speed seems to be 1.5m/s which seems pretty high to me. Is this a problem? 5. Although I was wondering about wind shadows. a) Do you know if ncdc data is corrected concerning wind shadows? b) Do you think wind shadow correction is necessary for such an analysis/ are there any experience values of the magnitude of that mistake? I would assume it is pretty small in comparison to the interpolating error of wasp? 6. Do you know the averaging interval of ncdc data? It's kinda hard to find and what I found (2 mins) seems pretty unusual. This got quite long :o. Thanks in advance for every response!
  7. Everything is working again, thanks alot Duncan. This free, quick and good support through a simple forum is examplary btw! =)
  8. Meh :/ I am slowly getting a bit mad. I reinstalled Windows and now I get the error message: "Sorry. The licence registration was not successful. Licence registration limit exceeded." I only registered it once successfully but endless trys with errors. What can I do now? Oh well my machine id changed :o
  9. Well I am pretty sure my mistake was to try to save my work while wasp was originally crashed (thou it asked if I wanted to save). After that I wasn't able to properly open WAsP and then I seemed to have destroyed something in my Registry which I also seem to be unable to recover even with a back up registry ... I dont have any other problems thou. Do you mean services in the task manager? I only have a service called WmiApSrv which is terminated but Winmgmt is started. Wmi is generally working thou but WmiDiag shows some/many problems. I dont have a clue what the report should tell me exactly thou.
  10. Hello again First of all thanks for your dedication posting that late in the evening =) Yeah of course I was restarting my computer like a hundred times :o. I don't know shit about wmi and it was not succesful to google it and do some stuff which was suggested - so I think I gotta reinstall windows :/ Fun fact: In the repository of wmi are always 3 files called mapping1.map, mapping2.map and mapping3.map which get renewed after every attempt to register wasp Thanks for the help =)
  11. I am my own admin so I can say for sure that nothing has changed and I didn't have any other problems. Though I was just yesterday working on this issue.
  12. I got a problem registrating WAsP 11 (newest Version). The error message is: "Sorry. The licence registration was not successful. No wmi." Because it might help - some background information: I encounterd some weird problems before: WAsP wouldn't open itself properly - it would start the programm but wouldn't show me the window at all. Reinstalling didn't fix it either. So I cleared all WAsP related Registry entrys, which would leave me with this registration error while installing. Reintegrating all Registry entrys left me with both errors. This first error might have occured because I opted to save my work while closing WAsP in crashed condition. I don't know what to do and if there is a simple solution to this (which I can't find) I would really like not to reinstall Windows. Is this a known error? Did I destroy sth. in my system? I am thankful for every help/advice! E: mb I should add: I got Windows 7 (64bit) and a file for registration
